STARKVILLE, Miss. – Another day brings more preseason rankings for the Mississippi State women's basketball team.
SLAM Magazine ranked the Bulldogs No. 9 in its preseason Top 10, while ESPNW tabbed MSU No. 12 in its preseason Top 25.
The latest rankings come a day after the Bulldogs were tabbed 11th in the Associated Press preseason poll. State also ranked No. 13 by USA Today, No. 6 by Athlon Sports and No. 8 by Lindy's Sports.
Reigning SEC Coach of the Year Vic Schaefer's squad was the third-highest SEC team in both polls, following South Carolina (No. 5 – SLAM, No. 2 – ESPNW) and Tennessee (No. 8 – SLAM, No. 3, ESPNW).
Texas, MSU's Dec. 2 opponent in Austin, came in at No. 4 in SLAM and No. 14 in ESPNW, while two other non-conference foes, South Florida and Florida Gulf Coast, ranked 18th and 22nd, respectively, in the ESPNW poll.
ESPNW ranked Texas A&M at No. 16 and Kentucky at No. 17.
MSU, which was picked third in the SEC by media members, returns four starters and 10 letterwinners from last year's team that advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Schaefer has three of his top four scorers back with preseason first team All-SEC selection Victoria Vivians (14.9 ppg), Morgan William (9.1 ppg) and Breanna Richardson (8.4 ppg).
Mississippi State hosts Mississippi College in a Nov. 10 exhibition before officially beginning the season with a 5:15 p.m. tip at the Hump against Samford on Nov. 13.
