November 04, 2015 | Baseball
STARKVILLE, Miss. – Former Mississippi State All-American Chad Girodo was named to the East roster for the 10th annual Arizona Fall League Fall Stars Game, the league announced this week. The game takes place Saturday at 7 p.m. CT and will be broadcast live on MLB Network and streamed live on MLB.com.
A ninth-round selection by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2013 Major League Baseball Draft, Girodo has not given up a run in four appearances out of the bullpen this fall, allowing just five hits and one walk in seven innings for the Salt River Rafters.
In three minor league seasons, the Blue Jays' prospect has already made it to Triple-A Buffalo, one stop shy of the Big Leagues. The southpaw owns a 2.30 career ERA in 160 2/3 innings pitched in the minors, striking out 163 batters with 34 walks. Opposing hitters are batting .233 against the lefty.
The Hartselle, Alabama, native was a key reason why MSU made it to its ninth NCAA College World Series in 2013, going 9-1 with a 1.36 ERA in 36 appearances. For his efforts, Girodo was named an All-American by College Baseball Insider.
The lefty was one of 15 players from the 2013 NCAA finalist squad to sign a professional contract. One of his teammates in 2013, shortstop Adam Frazier, is also playing in the AFL for the Glendale Desert Dogs. The 2015 Eastern League batting champ and Pittsburgh Pirates' prospect is hitting .321 in seven games.
