
MSU No. 9 In AP Poll, Setting Up Top 10 Showdown Against Texas

STARKVILLE, Miss. – An unbeaten start to the season earned Mississippi State a No. 9 ranking in this week's Associated Press Top 25 Poll, setting up a Top-10 road battle against Texas on Wednesday.
The Bulldogs earned a third-straight week in the Top 10 after starting the season 5-0 behind three victories last week.
MSU defeated Mississippi Valley State 109-37 before wrapping the week with a 92-34 win against Norfolk State and a 92-25 victory against Savannah State.
Vic Schaefer's squad claimed its 10th-straight home win on Sunday, the second-longest active win streak in the SEC.
The 5-0 start kept Mississippi State in the poll for a 22nd-straight week going back to last season.
The Bulldogs face their biggest test of the young season Wednesday as they hit the road for the first time to face sixth-ranked Texas. The Longhorns moved up two places after defeating Tennessee in Knoxville on Sunday.
The Lady Volunteers fell right ahead of the Bulldogs at No. 8. South Carolina rounded out the SEC squads in the Top 10, staying at No. 2.
Kentucky moved up to No. 11, while Texas A&M dropped two spots to No. 12.
The Bulldogs head to Austin top 5 in the SEC in all but one statistical category. MSU leads the nation in seven areas while rating in the top 3 in two others.
Wednesday's game against Texas tips at 7 p.m. on the Longhorn Network and ESPN3.
