ATHENS, Ga. – For the second-straight season, the Mississippi State men's tennis duo of Jordan Angus and Malte Stropp has advanced to the round of 16 of the NCAA Doubles Championship after a straight-sets victory on Thursday in Athens, Ga.
Angus and Stropp, ranked 17th nationally, faced off against North Carolina's No. 25 team of Brett Clark and Brayden Schnur in the opening round of doubles action. Holds were the theme early on in the match until late in the first set, when Angus and Stropp earned a key break at 5-5 to help them take the first 7-5. The Bulldog duo would use another break early in the second set to gain an advantage, eventually going on to take the match 7-5, 6-3 to advance to Friday's round of 16.
The MSU tandem will now face the winner of fourth-ranked and third-seeded Gonzales Austin and Ryan Lipman of Vanderbilt and TCU's 11th-ranked team of Nick Chappell and Will Stein, a match being played late Thursday. Should the Maroon and White duo capture victory on Friday, they will become the 22nd and 23rd ITA All-Americans in MSU men's tennis history and the 13th and 14th Bulldogs to capture All-American status in doubles.
A time for Friday's match will be determined by the NCAA following the completion of play Thursday.
