
MSU?s Cash, Lakat Close Out Play At ITA National Indoors

NEW YORK CITY, N.Y. – On day two in New York City, the Mississippi State men's tennis duo of Julian Cash and Florian Lakat fell in their consolation match at the 2014 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships on Friday night.
Cash and Lakat took on South Florida's Roberto Cid and Sasha Gozun, the number one seed in the second-round consolation bracket. The MSU duo found themselves down a break early, but would break back to put the match back on serve in the first set, down 4-3. The two sides would trade holds and eventually land in a tiebreaker, where it would be a back-and-forth affair until Cid and Gozun pulled away to take the first set, 7-6(5).
MSU's top tandem would pull out a break lead early in the second set with a 3-1 lead. However, the USF team would break back and eventually pull out to a 4-3 advantage. Cash and Lakat would answer with a break back to tie the set at 4-all, eventually pushing the set to a tiebreaker. USF's tandem jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the breaker before Cash and Lakat pulled to within one, down 6-5. Despite the rally, Cid and Gozun would hold strong, taking the set and the match, 7-6(5), 7-6(6).
The Bulldogs will now turn their attention to the final tournament of the fall slate, the USTA Futures in Niceville, Fla. Play is set to begin on Saturday, Nov. 8.
