NORMAN, Okla. - Once again, led by Ally McDonald and Chieh Jessica Peng, Mississippi State finds itself atop the leaderboard after two rounds at the Schooner Fall Classic with one to play.
“We had perfect conditions today, and the course was set up to score,” MSU coach Ginger Brown-Lemm said. “It was different than (Saturday) in that we had a 207-yard par 3. Today it was more reasonable at 160 yards. This is a super tournament and a super field, but I feel our best round is still out there. We played well as a team, and I can't wait to tee up in the final round.”
Tying with teammate Chieh Jessica Peng on Saturday, Ally McDonald was able to share the top place after round one. Sunday, McDonald earned the top spot all by herself as she finished the second round the same as she ended the first with a 67.
After a stellar first round Saturday, Peng picked up where she left off and had another solid finish in Sunday's event with a 68 to put her in second.
Two other Bulldogs were able to join Peng and McDonald in the Top 20 after the second round. Senior Rica Tse carded a 70 to remain in 11th place. Ji Eun Baik shaved five strokes off of her first round finish, to end the second round with a 68, and in 18th place.
After making her premier to the 2014 season Saturday, Balise Carabello finished the second round with 10 over par 80.
Finishing with four players in the Top 20 after two rounds was good enough to keep No.10 Mississippi State in first after totaling a 273 to give the Bulldogs a two-day total of 550.
Monday, the Bulldog's will tee off at 10 a.m. for the final round of the Schooner Fall Classic.
