Led By Follet-Smith, MSU In 3rd Place After First Round

COLLEGE GROVE, Tenn. – Ben Follet-Smith is tied for 7th while Mississippi State sits in a tie for 3rd place after the opening round of The Intercollegiate At The Grove on Sunday.
After a slow start, Follet-Smith birdied four of his last eleven holes to finish with a 1-under-par 71, leaving him five shots back of Lipscomb's Dawson Armstrong for the lead.
“The two things I am most happy with was that we didn't get off to a good start, but we got it turned around and showed some resilience,” MSU coach Clay Homan said. “We were pretty good around the greens and turned bogeys into pars.”
Sophomore Jackson Dick rifled an even-par 72 to end Sunday in a tie for 14th.
Bruce, Miss., native T.J. Morgan rounded out the top-25 Bulldog trio with a 1-over-par 73 to finish tied for 20th.
Tim Walker carded a 2-over-par 74, ending the day in a tie for 26th.
A two-time winner this year, Ben Wood shot a 4-over-par 76 to end up tied for 47th.
As a team, MSU is 11 shots back of Troy for the tournament lead.
“Tomorrow, I expect the course to play a little tougher so we will need to be better tee to green,” Homan said. “It was great to see that we got better production and consistency throughout our lineup.”
The Bulldogs tee it up for the second round at 9:40 a.m. CT, Monday morning.
