OXFORD, Miss. - The Mississippi State women's golf team turned in a seventh-place 306 tally during Friday's first round of the Rebel Intercollegiate at the Ole Miss Golf Course, while freshman Ally McDonald and sophomore Mary Langdon Gallagher are tied for eighth.

After notching a runner-up finish in the John Kirk/Panther Intercollegiate a week ago, Ginger Brown-Lemm's squad is on pace to card their second Top 5 finish. It would be the first time an MSU team has accomplished the feat since the fall of 2005.

Ole Miss and 17^th-ranked Baylor currently lead the field of 15 with a pair of 4-over-par 292's.

McDonald and Gallagher each turned in 74's Friday. The duo is tied for eighth, five strokes behind Natalie Gleadall of Ole Miss. McDonald turned in a runner-up card, individually, in the last event.

Rica Tse, Elena Warren and Perry Katherine Furr all struggled during the first 18 holes, but managed turn a pair of 79's and an 82, respectively.

"We had two good scores in Ally and Mary Langdon," Brown-Lemm said. "The three others struggled with putting and were often on the wrong side of the hole for an up-and-down for par. We simply have to do a better job scrambling. Rica worked hard to finish with a 79 after three double bogeys. We have to have a better team effort the rest of the way because we need four scores at 75 or better to play top-level SEC golf. I will not rest until we make it there."

Second-round action begins at 8 a.m., Saturday morning with the Lady Bulldogs slated to tee off alongside Minnesota and Kansas State.
