Bulldogs Maintain Seventh-Place, Boasson and Ramey In Top 15
April 10, 2012 | Men's Golf
The Bulldogs had their streak of eight straight Top 10 finishes snapped at the BancorpSouth Intercollegiate a week ago but are on pace to begin a new Top 10 streak. After turning in a 293 during Monday's first 18 holes, Clay Homan's squad managed to notch a 302 during the second 18.
"The only winner today was the golf course," Homan said. "I thought we competed hard and hung in there on by far the most demanding course of the year. A U.S. Open could have been held at Colonial Country Club today as firm as the greens played. We are still right in the thick of things, but we need a good round tomorrow."
Sophomores Boasson and Ramey each turned in a 74 during round two. After falling into the mid 30's on the leaderboard, Boasson carded an eagle-birdie-birdie-birdie on four straight holes to vault himself into the Top 15, just one stroke back of the Top 10. The Iceland native has yet to turn in a Top 10 finish in his two-year career.
Ramey continues his stellar campaign looking for his team-leading eighth Top 25 clip. The Fulton native is only two strokes away from his third Top 10, which would also be tops on the Maroon and White squad.
John Darden finds himself just outside the Top 25 heading into Tuesday's final round, while seniors Clay Bounds and Alex Rowland rounded out the Bulldog leaderboard with a 156 and 168, respectively.
The final-round action is slated to begin at 8 a.m. Live stats will be available through HailState.com with MSU scheduled to tee off its final round of the regular season alongside La. Tech and South Alabama at 8:45.
