Lady Bulldogs Complete Day Two SEC Championship Action
February 26, 2011 | Track & Field
Favian Cowards was the top finisher for the Lady Bulldogs with her fifth place finish in the 20-lbs weight throw. With her throw of 60-10 ½, the junior broke the MSU all-time indoor record for the weight throw and secured the first team points for the Maroon and White.
"I could not be prouder of the effort Favian gave today," head coach Steve Dudley said. "She saved her best for the SEC Championships, earned a MSU all-time record, and put her team on the board."
Earning Top 15 finishes for MSU in the 60m hurdles were sophomores Keisha Wallace (8.56) and Racquel Farquharson (8.68) who finished 10th and 13th respectively, while sophomore Chloe Phillips finished 12th in the mile (5:01.03). Senior Taneisha Baker found her way in to the Top 15 twice with her 15th place finish in the 400m dash (55.15) and a 12th place finish in the 200m dash (24.26).
In other competition, Bulldog James Harris automatically qualified for a spot at the NCAA Indoor National Championships with his performance in the high jump at the USA Indoor Track and Field Championships at Albuquerque, N.M. Harris, a freshman, jumped a MSU indoor record breaking 7-4 ½ to finish third at the meet and secure his place at nationals.
"James Harris automatically qualified for nationals and placed third at the USA Indoor Championships, all at 18 years old," Dudley said. "In my opinion, that's a pretty good way to spend your day."
Tavaris Tate also saw action at the USA Indoor Track and Field Championships. The sophomore posted a time of 47.10 to secure his place in the finals, which will be televised live on ESPN starting at 4:30 pm eastern.
