Lady Bulldogs Wrap Up Fall, McDonald Posts Fourth-Place Finish

After a 914 for the tournament, the team bettered its round average to 310, a full three strokes better than the 2011 Spring average.
Standout freshman Ally McDonald carded a 1-over-par 73 to finish at 217 for the event and finished tied with 42nd-ranked Grace Na of Pepperdine for fourth. She finished only three strokes back of tournament-winner Nicole Vandermade of Texas.
Her 217 tied the 11th-lowest tournament-score in program history, and with her season stroke average lowered to 74.33, McDonald is also on pace to finish second all-time in lowest season stroke average.
"Ally represented State well with her performance," MSU coach Ginger Brown-Lemm said. "She really made a statement and was backed up with good scores from her team because everyone in the 70's today. We beat a 29th-ranked team and that means so much at this stage."Perry Katherine Furr turned in her best tournament of her career with a 231. The senior is the most-experienced player and only upperclassman on the MSU roster. Her current stroke average (80.67) is also the second lowest of her career.
Newcomer Rica Tse trailed Furr after firing a 79 in the final round to end with a 233. Her 78.17 scoring clip ranks her second on the team behind McDonald.
Matching Tse's clip, Mary Langdon Gallagher rounded out the MSU leaderboard with a final-round 79.
Sophomore Esther Huffman notched 238 in her first event of the season after undergoing shoulder surgery during the summer.
No. 20 Texas claimed the event title with an 16-over-par 880.
"I could not be more pleased with our performance," Brown-Lemm said. "We played one of the more difficult courses and two of the three rounds the wind blew 15 to 25 miles-per-hour. We played with so much determination. I am proud of what they accomplished and so excited for the positive energy we have as we go into off season."
The Lady Bulldogs return to action on Feb. 12 in the UCF Challenge at the Red Tail Golf Club in Orlando, Fla.
