Women's Golf Posts Third-Best Opening Round Of The Season
March 16, 2012 | Women's Golf
The 304 is MSU's third-best opening round of the season and second-best round overall during the spring slate. Currently, the Lady Bulldogs are in 14th-place in the Sunshine State.
SEC-foe and second-ranked Alabama is the tournament leader after a 4-under-par 284, while Georgia Bulldog Emilie Burger is tops individually at 3-under-par 67.
For the Lady Bulldogs, Rica Tse turned in a 5-over-par 75. It is Tse's second-best opening round of her career behind the freshman's first-round 74 at the 2011 SEC/Pac-12 Challenge.
Sophomore Mary Langdon Gallagher and freshman Elena Warren each turned in 76's, while senior Perry Katherine Furr tallied a 77.
MSU's scoring average leader struggled during day one of the event as Ally McDonald carded an 8-over-par 78.
"I like what I say today," MSU coach Ginger Brown-Lemm said. "We are playing with the best teams in the nation and holding our own. The golf course is challenging to say the least. The green complexes are extremely demanding. The greens are on the small side, have lots of movement, and are well guarded with multiple bunkers. Our No. 1, Ally McDonald, had an uncharacteristic off day. I was proud to see other step up. To be within two shots of the Top 10 in this field is a good start. Tomorrow is the day we establish our position in this field. We are focusing in our game; we can only control what we do."
Second-round action begins at 8 a.m. with live stats available through HailState.com. MSU is slated to tee off at 8:45 along side Wisconsin and Ole Miss.
