MSU Tennis Gains Win In Default By Arizona
January 30, 2011 | Men's Tennis
COLLEGE STATION, Texas - A virus impacted the 40th-ranked Mississippi State men's tennis team's Sunday match against the No. 32 Arizona Wildcats. The Wildcats were plagued with a virus that forced them to default to the Bulldogs at the ITA Kickoff Weekend in College Station, Texas.
"We are disappointed that we didn't get to play the match but I know Coach (Tad) Berkowitz did everything he could to avoid this but his guys were just too sick to compete today," Coach Per Nilsson said. "Yes this counts as a win on our record but we would have preferred to play the match. We will head back home and prepare this week for our match at Georgia Tech on Saturday."
With the win by default the Bulldogs are 1-1 on the season after Saturday's 4-3 setback to 10th-ranked Texas A&M. MSU will next travel to Atlanta for a match at 23rd-ranked Georgia Tech on Saturday, Feb. 5.
