The Bulldogs fell to 22-21 and 3-12 in SEC play, while the Tigers improved to 32-9 and 11-5 in the conference with the series sweep.
Bramlett finished the weekend 8-for-10 at the plate with three stolen bases. The three-time all-American improved to 51-for-51 on the bases, and she has collected 59 consecutive successful steals.
State struck with a run in the top of the first for the third time in the series. Bramlett continued her stellar weekend by lining a leadoff double to left field. After stealing third for her 51st stolen base of the year, she scored as LSU catcher Morgan Russell's throw sailed into left field.
“We sort of came out flat from the start,” MSU head coach Jay Miller said. “We got that early run in the first inning, but we have to sustain that. We need more production than we're getting offensively right now.”
A Rachel Mitchell base hit and a Bulldog error put the tying run a third in the home half of the first inning, but Mississippi State starter Misty Flesher got a strikeout and a groundout to end the inning and preserve the 1-0 advantage.
The Dawgs were unable to convert on a Brittany Bell leadoff single in the second, and LSU answered with an RBI double from Jessica Mouse and run-scoring singles from Mitchell and Kirsten Shortridge to take a 3-1 lead.
LSU extended the lead to 4-1 with a run in the bottom of the third inning. Flesher retired the first hitter of the inning before hitting Anissa Young with a pitch and surrendering a base hit to Morgan Russell. Lindsey Dunlap entered in relief for the Dawgs, and after issuing a walk to Ashley Applegate, Allison Falcon plated the run with a sacrifice fly to center field.
Flesher fell to 9-7 on the year as she allowed four runs on six hits with a strikeout over 2.1 innings. Dunlap tossed the final 3.2 frames, allowing two runs while issuing four walks.
The Tigers added two more runs in the fifth on a Young home run and a bases-loaded walk. State, however, had a chance to cut into the deficit in the sixth. Bramlett lined a one-out triple, her third of the season, to the gap in left-center, but a line-out and a strikeout stranded the Bulldogs' senior catcher at third.
The Bulldogs return home and meet No. 12/15 Georgia Tuesday in a Southeastern Conference doubleheader. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. at the MSU Softball Field.
