MSU's Mayers Earns Qualifying Mark For Finals At Texas Relays
April 01, 2010 | Track & Field
AUSTIN, Texas - Against some of the best track and field athletes in the country on Thursday at the 83rd Texas Relays, the Mississippi State men proved worthy of its No. 12 national ranking by earning a key qualifying time.
Junior Bulldog Emmanuel Mayers earned his mark in the men's 400-meter hurdles university prelims by finishing ninth with a time of 52.31 to earn a spot in the finals.
"Emmanuel made the finals and ran a pretty good race, MSU head coach Al Schmidt said. "It was the start we needed for him, knowing he'll only improve."
Lady Bulldog contender Talisha Lee didn't fare as well, as she placed 14th in the preliminaries of the 400-meter hurdles university/college with a time of 1:02.63.
Talisha hit a hurdle and unfortunately it threw her off, and she didn't finish as well as we'd hoped," Schmidt added.
Mississippi State continues competition at the 83rd Texas Relays on Friday and will also send a select few to compete in Auburn at the Tiger Track Classic.
