Lady Bulldogs Continue Improvement At Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic

ATHENS, Ga.- Mississippi State's women's golf team bested round two's team total by 18 strokes in Sunday's final round to finish the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic tied for 22nd. Standout junior Erika Thornton completed play tied for 69th with a team-best 239 for the tournament. Thornton has led the Lady Bulldogs four out of this year's seven tournaments thus far.
Fellow junior Mallory Batson finishes second for MSU golfers at 36-over-par after leading the team in the tournament's first round. Senior Leigh Phillips finished one stroke behind Batson, while fellow senior Gina Sharp followed suit one stroke back from Phillips. Freshman Mario Roos rounded out State golfers with a three-round total of 259.
Sixth-ranked Duke completed its impressive showing with a third-round team total of 289, finishing a full 21 strokes ahead of second-placed Alabama. The surprising Arkansas Razorbacks finish third at 912, while a surging Purdue tied Auburn for fourth place. After leading all three rounds, Duke's Lindy Duncan claimed individual honors at 3-under-par, an eight-stroke advantage on second place.
Mississippi State faces a short turn-around, leaping back into play next Friday, April 02, at the Rebel Intercollegiate.
