Lady Bulldogs Finish Day One At SEC Championship

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Mississippi State's women's golf team fired a spring-best tying 309 in the competitive SEC Championship's first round. The team stands 12th overall, while junior Erika Thornton joins senior Leigh Phillips with a first-round total of 76 and tied for 44th individually.
Junior Mallory Batson stands third on the team with a 78, senior Gina Sharp completed round one a stroke behind Batson and sophomore Perry Katherine Furr rounded out State golfers with an 82.
16th-ranked Georgia and 32nd-ranked Arkansas lead the pack after day one with team totals of 280. 19th-ranked LSU, 24th-ranked Vanderbilt and Ole Miss all stand tied for third at four strokes back. Individually, South Carolina's Benedicte Toumpsin holds a one stroke advantage at 4-under-par.
Mississippi State will begin Saturday's second-round play at 8:30 a.m. CT.
