Lady Bulldogs Improve On Day Two At Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic

ATHENS, Ga.- Mississippi State's women's golf team recorded a nine-stroke improvement in Saturday's second round of the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic. The Lady Bulldogs fired a 333 and remain 23rd, with streaking junior Erika Thornton now leading the way tied for 85th at 20-over-par.
Fellow junior Mallory Batson stands second on the squad at 27-over-par after leading the squad in the first round. Leigh Phillips joins Batson with a two-round total of 171, freshman Maria Roos has fired a 176 and senior Gina Sharp stands one stroke behind Roos at 177.
Sixth-ranked Duke continues to dominate the field, now standing a full 12 strokes ahead of second-placed Auburn. The surprising Tar Heels of North Carolina and Razorbacks of Arkansas stand third and fourth at 614 and 615, respectively, while seventh-ranked Alabama rounds out the SEC-dominated tournament top five after two rounds. Duke's Lindy Duncan has opened up a five-stroke lead at 2-under-par individually.
Mississippi State will round out tournament play in a shotgun format on Sunday.
