Lady Bulldogs Complete Day One At Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic

ATHENS, Ga.- Mississippi State's women's golf team concluded the first round of the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic Friday afternoon in 23rd place. Junior Mallory Batson led the team for the third time this spring, firing an 83 at 11-over-par to stand tied for 67th.
Fellow junior Erika Thornton placed second on the team and stands three strokes behind Batson. Freshman Maria Roos and senior Leigh Phillips each fired an 87, while senior Gina Sharp rounded out State golfers with a first-round total of 95.
Sixth-ranked Duke leads all teams by ten strokes after round one with a team total of 300, with ninth-ranked Purdue and surprising North Carolina joining third-ranked Auburn for a tie for second place. Arkansas stands as the second tournament unranked top-five squad at fifth place and 312. Duke's Lindy Duncan stands atop the individual leaderboard at two-under-par, a four-stroke advantage.
Mississippi State will begin Saturday's second-round play at 9:00 a.m. CT. Sunday's third round will feature a shotgun start.
