Mississippi State Men's Golf Concludes Play At Furman Intercollegiate

The Bulldogs notched rounds of 302, 302 and 305 to bring the team's total score to 909. MSU missed a top 10 finish by two strokes, while Clemson won the event with a 54-hole score of 865.
"We've got to get much better. This tournament exposed many of our weaknesses," said head coach Clay Homan. "We have to do a better job of finishing off rounds. Today, we played our last three holes at 9-over-par. Good teams don't do that."
State's true freshman Brad Mason was MState's leader in the third round and tied for the team lead to conclude the tournament. Mason notched a team-best 74 in the final round and was MSU's leader in birdies made with 10 over the course of the three rounds. It was Mason's first career top finish in the Bulldog lineup and also his best career finish tying for 20th among the 135-player field.
Sophomore Lee Heaton of MSU tied Mason for the team lead, posting consistent rounds of 74, 75 and 75, for an 8-over-par finish. Heaton's top 20 finish was his fourth one of the season. Heaton was also among the tournament leaders in par 3 and par 5 scoring.
Bulldog sophomore Brad Thompson finished the tournament in a career-best tie for 36th among the individual field with a three-round score of 227. Thompson was among the leaders in pars made with 34. True freshman Robi Calvesbert had his streak of leading MSU in tournaments end at four, while firing three consecutive rounds of 78. True freshman Mike Genovese rounded out the Bulldog lineup with a 54-hole score of 237.
The Bulldogs linksters will conclude its regular season on April 5 in Madison, Miss., at the Reunion Intercollegiate.
