State Linksters In Seventh Following First Round Of Furman Intercollegiate

The Bulldogs are merely six strokes behind fifth-place Presbyterian College, while Chattanooga and Clemson are tied for the lead among the 24-team field.
State was led on the opening day by sophomore Lee Heaton and true freshman Brad Mason. Heaton and Mason both notched a 2-over-par 74 and stand in a tie for 20th among the 135-player individual field. Heaton led MSU with four birdies made while Mason was tied for the team lead in pars made with 12.
Sophomore Brad Thompson of MState also notched 12 pars in the opening round and currently sits in a tie for 43rd following his first round score of 76. The Bulldogs true freshman Robi Calvesbert, who has led MSU in its previous four tournaments, tallied a 78 in the first round and classmate Mike Genovese rounded out the Bulldog lineup with a 79 on the opening day.
