Bulldog Linksters Stand Fifth Following First Round Of Seminole Intercollegiate

"I thought we played well for most of the day," said head coach Clay Homan. "We had two or three hiccups that really cost us. We have to understand that a round of golf is 18 holes and not just 16 or 17 holes."
The Bulldogs notched a 5-over-par 289 in the first round of play and are one stroke behind third-place South Carolina and Baylor and trail first-place Florida State by 11 strokes.
True freshman Robi Cavlesbert and sophomore Lee Heaton paced the Maroon and White in the first round with even-par showings and are tied at 13 among the 75-players in the individual field. Calvesbert, who has been MSU's leader in the previous three tournaments, led MSU in pars made with 12.
State's true freshman Mike Genovese finished among the top 25 in the individual field (Tied for 22nd) following the first round action with a 1-over-par score of 72.
Bulldog freshman Brad Mason notched a 4-over-par score of 75 and led MState in birdies made with five in one round of play.
Sophomore Brad Thompson rounded out the Bulldog lineup, posting a first round score of 80.
MSU will tee off the second round tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. CT and conclude the tournament with a third and final round on Sunday. Live stats are available at www.mstateathletics.com.
