Lady Bulldogs Complete Day One Of Kinderlou Forest Challenge

VALDOSTA, Ga. - Mississippi State's women's golf team concluded play through most of round two today ranked 18th at the Kinderlou Forest Challenge. Play was halted due to darkness at 5:30 p.m. CT. The remainder of the second round, as well as the final round, will take place tomorrow. State's team total stands at 323, just one stroke back from 17th, while senior Gina Sharp is pacing the team tied for 59th at 10-over-par.
Junior Leigh Phillips stands tied for 61st just a stroke behind Sharp, while standout junior Erika Thornton is tied for 74th at 14-over-par. Freshman Morgan McQuary led the Bulldogs for the first time of her career in the day's first round, firing a 79 and standing 16-over-par currently. Rounding out State golfers was senior Suzanne Stanley, who is tied for 85th.
Despite joining MSU as a tournament underdog, Tulane holds a five-stroke advantage over second-placed Tennessee at 3-over-par. The Southeastern Conference holds three of the tournament's top five spots currently, as LSU stands fourth at 12-over-par and Florida is fifth and one stroke behind the Tigers. Ohio State is third after day one at 10-over-par. The SEC is dominating individual play also, as Vanderbilt's Marina Alex and Georgia's Marta Silva Zamora are tied at a stroke under par.
Mississippi State's women golfers will continue second-round action at 7:30 Tuesday morning.
