Coupland Advances To Main Draw At Pensacola Futures

PENSACOLA, Fla. - George Coupland of the Mississippi State men's tennis team won his fourth-straight qualifying match at the Pensacola Futures in Pensacola, Fla., to advance to the main draw.
Coupland followed up his impressive Sunday victory over the 2008 NCAA Champion and former Ole Miss Rebel Devin Britton with a three-set victory on Monday to qualify for the main draw, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Three other Bulldogs were active in the last round of qualifying at the Pensacola Futures. Artem Ilyushin won his opening set, 6-2, but dropped the final two, 4-6, 2-6, to eventually be eliminated. True freshman Malte Stropp dropped two tiebreakers in a three-set battle to be eliminated, 6-7, 6-2, 6-7. Louis Cant fell in straightsets for the Maroon and White, 2-6, 4-6.
