Genovese Has First Career Top Five Finish

"I was pleased with Mike Genovese, for his first college tournament finished fifth and was five strokes from winning. He will be an outstanding player for us," said Coach Clay Homan. "Each player had good moments, we just lack in experience, but that will arrive and I see us being a better team by the end of the year."
MState improved on day two of the event after shooting a 290 in the first round the Bulldogs put together rounds of 283 and 284 in the second and third rounds, to eventually score an 857.
Finishing second on the team behind Genovese was fellow true freshman Robi Calvesbert who notched consistent scores of 72, 73 and 73 and tied for 40th at five-over par. Sophomore Brooks Bankhead and redshirt freshman John Darden both tied for 45th among the individual field with scores at six-over par, and shooting one stroke behind Bankhead and Darden was true freshman Brad Mason with a 220 over the course of three rounds, and also notched one of the five eagles scored at the tournament. Sophomore Lee Heaton competed for the Bulldogs as an individual, and finished in a tie for 24th with a one-over par score of 214.
"Overall I was pleased with our guys. We just need to lower our scores to help us," said Homan. "We were only 12 shots from winning and four shots from fourth place. We were competitive and that is a bright spot,"
The Bulldog linksters return to action on Sep. 25, when they tee off at the Mason Rudolph Intercollegiate at the Legends Club at Franklin, Tenn.
