Thornton Claims Top Ten Finish At Cougar Classic

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Junior Erika Thornton recorded her career-first top ten finish, firing a 1-under-par 215 at the Cougar Classic. Her three-round total as well as her second-round score of 70 ties for fourth-best in MSU history.
"I'm proud of Erika's performance the entire tournament," said head coach Christi Sanders. "It was a good individual finish for her. She managed her way around the golf course well and played with great confidence."
State's lady golfers placed 15th as a team notching a total of 916. SEC-foe, and 15th-ranked Georgia won the tournament with an 850. Coach Sanders chose to withdraw freshman Maria Roos after the second round to avoid injury.
"It was a tough round today as a team and we were only able to play with four players instead of five," coach Sanders said. "I had to withdraw Maria due to an ailing back."
The MState Lady linksters return to the course September 25th at the Bettie Lou Evans Fall Invitational, hosted by the University of Kentucky.
