Bulldogs Have Top 10 Finish At Reunion Intercollegiate

MADISON, Miss. ? The Mississippi State men's golf team finished seventh at the Reunion Intercollegiate after scoring a 921 through three rounds at the par 72 Reunion Golf Course in Madison, Miss. The Bulldogs fired rounds of 309, 313 and 299 to finish 57-over-par and 32 strokes behind tournament champion LSU.
"Overall this was a disappointing performance for us," said head coach Clay Homan. "We let the weather get the better of us during the first two rounds. We did not putt very well but we will continue to work to get ready for the SEC Championship."
Senior Carlos Sainz, Jr. was MSU's top finisher for the sixth time this season after scoring an 8-over-par 224 through three rounds and finished in a tie of fifth. The tournament was Sainz's fifth top-10 finish and his third top-5 finish of the season.
"Carlos played great for us today," said Homan. "He was 3-under-par on his back-nine today. He has been extremely consistent and very solid for us all year."
Fellow senior Josh Bevell finished five strokes behind Sainz after notching rounds of 76-76-77 and tied for 18th claiming his fourth top-20 finish of the season. Seniors Brian Mason and Noah Goldman both fired final-rounds of 75 to finish the tournament tied for 35th and 54th respectively. Rounding out the Bulldog lineup, senior Matt Fast finished the event with a 239 and tied for 56th.
MSU will enter postseason play on April 17 at the SEC Championship in St. Simons Island, Ga.
