
MSU Men's Tennis Ends Regular Season With Home Setback To Ole Miss

The Bulldogs fell to 6-14 on the season and 2-9 in Southeastern Conference action, with the Rebels completing their sweep of the conference (11-0) and advancing to 21-2 on the season.
MState dropped a hard-fought doubles point that began with true freshman Daniel Sanchez and sophomore Antonio Lastre of MSU falling first at the No. 2 spot to Ole Miss' Devin Britton and Tucker Vorster, 8-3. At the No. 1 slot, State's Chris Doerr and Tanner Stump had an early lead on the Rebels' top-ranked tandem of Jonas Berg and Bram ten Berge, but ultimately fell 8-6, clinching the opening point of the day for the Rebels. Senior Ryan Farlow and Artem Ilyushin led UM's Kalle Norberg and Otto Sauer, 7-6, at the No. 3 position, when the match was suspended.
MSU dropped all but one of the opening sets in singles as they slipped up in five of the six singles contests on the afternoon.
True freshman Louis Cant of MSU fell first at the No. 3 position to the 42nd-ranked Norberg of Ole Miss, losing the first set, 6-1, and trailing 3-0 when he was forced to retire due to injury. The Bulldogs' 102nd-ranked true freshman Ilyushin then dropped a two-set bout to No. 15 Berg at the No. 1 spot, 6-2, 6-1. MSU's Sanchez, back from an injury that had sidelined him in the previous 10 matches, then went down at the No. 4 spot to Rebel ten Berge, 6-3, 6-3, to clinch the team win for the Rebels.
Playing in the final home match of his career for MSU, the 99th-ranked Farlow dropped a competitive two-set bout to No. 39 Britton of Ole Miss 6-1, 7-5 at the No. 2 spot. State's junior Doerr then fell 7-5, 6-2 at No. 6 to UM's Marcel Thiemann.
Claiming the lone point on the day for the Bulldogs was Lastre who won a three-set match over Sauer of the Rebels, 6-4, 4-6, 1-0(7).
“It was a tough match to watch, but it was good to get Daniel (Sanchez) back into our lineup,” said
MSU will now turn their focus to the 2009 SEC Championship which begins next Thursday, April 23, in
