Lady Bulldogs Complete Round Two At SEC Championship

BLYTHWOOD, S.C. - Mississippi State's women's golf team concluded the second round of the 2009 SEC Tournament today with a team total of 625, remaining ranked 12th in the field overall.
Junior Leigh Phillips fired a 77 in round two, setting a 153 mark for her first two rounds - her best such effort this season. She leads MSU and is tied for 34th individually in the tournament. Fellow junior Gina Sharp is just one stroke back and is tied for 38th overall, while freshman Perry Katherine Furr also recorded a second-round total of 77 and currently holds a 160. Sophomore Mallory Batson stands at 161 for two rounds, while fellow sophomore Erika Thornton fired a team-best 76 Saturday, after her first round was disqualified Friday.
The Arkansas Razorbacks, at +14, jumped a spot to take a three-stroke lead over Auburn in the team standings. LSU is now 19-over-par in third place after jumping four spots with today's impressive 286 team performance. Tennessee and Alabama round out the tournament's top five after round two with scores of 588 and 591, respectively.
MSU will begin the final round of the SEC Tournament at 8:30 a.m. CT Sunday.
