Lady Bulldogs Complete 2008-09 Season At SEC Championship

BLYTHWOOD, S.C. - Mississippi State's women's golf team wrapped up the 2008-09 season today, finishing 12th in the 2009 SEC Tournament with a team total of 930.
Two juniors topped the Lady Bulldogs for the first time this season, as Gina Sharp fired three-straight rounds of 77 to lead MSU at 18-over-par and tied for 41st individually and Leigh Phillips recorded a career-best finish of a tie for 45th at 21-over-par.
Sophomore Mallory Batson trailed Phillips by a stroke and placed tied for 47th, and freshman Perry Katherine Furr fired a 240 to place tied for 54th. Sophomore Erika Thornton finished with a two-round total of 150 after her first round on Friday was disqualified.
After losing the lead in round two, Auburn stormed back with an impressive third-round team total of 285 to claim the tournament's team title and the eighth SEC championship for the Tigers.. Arkansas fell from the top spot to tie surging Alabama for second with a three-round total of 878, eight strokes behind the leader. Tennessee took fourth spot with an 881 and 29-over-par, while LSU rounded out the tournament's top five at 34-over-par. Georgia's Marta Silva claimed the tournament's individual title at 3-under-par and four strokes ahead of second place, and became the first freshman to win the SEC Tournament's individual title since 2005.
