Big Inning Lifts ULM Past Diamond Dogs, 7-1

MONROE, La. - Mississippi State surrendered a six-run seventh inning as the Baseball Bulldogs fell to Louisiana-Monroe 7-1 in college baseball action Wednesday night at ULM's Warhawk Field.
ULM won its third straight and improved to 16-11, while MSU fell to 15-13.
ULM junior right-handed pitcher Don Williams celebrated being named Louisiana Pitcher of the Week by throwing a complete-game seven hitter against the Bulldogs. Williams was honored earlier Wednesday after throwing a complete-game four-hitter last week in a 9-2 win over Southern Miss.
Williams (3-0) threw 125 pitches and faced seven betters above the minimum. His night's work included nine strikeouts and one walk.
MSU sophomore left-hander Forrest Moore matched Williams stride for stride through the first six innings. Moore allowed two hits and struck out 11 Warhawks through the first six innings of play.
Home runs marked the early scoring. Ryan Duffy hit his third home run of the year in the MSU second inning. ULM answered with Nick Wade's fourth home run of the year in the fifth inning.
The Warhawks then struck the Bulldogs' bullpen for six runs in the seventh inning, securing victory in their first home game against a Southeastern Conference opponent since 2004.
MSU reliever Greg Houston (1-1) faced four batters and did not record an out. An infield hit by Wade and back to back bunt singles loaded the bases. A walk to Jon Prevost forced in the go-ahead run.
Jarred Wesson then relieved Houston. Wesson was touched for a three-run double by Ben Soignier and a two-run home run by Matt Laird - his sixth of the season.
Each team finished with seven hits. Hogue had multiple hits for the Bulldogs, while Wade and Boomer Blanchard had multiple hits for the Warhawks.
The Bulldogs host Auburn in Southeastern Conference play this weekend. Game times are 6:30 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. Saturday and 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Dudy Noble Field.
