MSU's Brady And Harris Win Decathlon, Pentathlon On Day Two Of Alabama Relays
March 27, 2009 | Track & Field
STARKVILLE, Miss.- Senior Bulldog Darryl Brady finished the decathlon with 6,544 points to win the event, while fellow senior Marrissa Harris won the Pentathlon with 5,397 points. LaQuinta Aaron placed third in the Pentathlon with 5,163 points.
“It was a good day,” said head coach Al Schmidt. “We had two champions today and it's always a good day when that happens.”
Brady won the 100-meter dash (11.33 seconds), the long jump (6.59m) and the 110-meter hurdles (17.16 seconds) of the decathlon.
“The field had four All-Americans, said Schmidt. “Darryl was the champion of the decathlon at this meet last year so it was good to repeat that. The competition was tough, but he had a good solid performance. He has a shot at qualifying for Nationals in the coming weeks.”
Harris not only won the pentathlon, she also qualified for NCAA Championships, which will be held in June, along with fellow teammate LaQuinta Aaron.
“Both LaQuinta and Marrissa qualified for Nationals today,” said Schmidt. “Marrissa got a personal-best in the javelin and they both had solid races in the 800-meter run. It was a good opening heptathlon for the year. They will continue to improve for the rest of the season.”
Competition of the Alabama Relays continues tomorrow at Sam Bailey Track.
