
Bulldog Golf Squad Claims Troy Invitational Championship

The Mississippi State men's golf team claimed its second tournament championship in as many seasons Sunday, winning the Troy Invitational after a three-round score of 892 at the par-72 Heritage Plantation Club. Improving on their 28-stroke lead through two rounds, MSU fought through tough winds Sunday to post a third-round score of 310 to finish the tournament with an 892, a 32-stroke win.
“It feels great to win,” said head coach Clay Homan. “This was a great performance by our players. Even though we won, there are still many ways to improve.”
MSU's Noah Goldman claimed the individual championship of the event after a 5-over-par, three-round score of 221. It marks the second career tournament victory for the Longwood,
“Noah and Brian played great,” said Homan. “They played great today in the third round when the tournament's average round was high.”
Seniors Matt Fast and Josh Bevell finished five shots off Goldman's pace at 10-over-par in a tie for fifth place. Fast carded the tournament's low round with a 68 in the second round. After claiming the lead through 36 holes, Bevell was able to hold on and post his best career finish. Fellow senior Carlos Sainz, Jr. claimed his ninth career top 10 finish with a three-day total of 233 to finish in a tie for 10th.
Redshirt freshman Lee Heaton posted a three-round total of 236 to finish in a tie for 18th. Heaton competed as an individual and his score does not count towards the team score.
