Lady Bulldogs Complete Play At Kiawah Island Women's Intercollegiate

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. - Mississippi State's women's golf squad finished play today tied for 22nd out of an NCAA-record 43 competing teams at the Kiawah Island Women's Intercollegiate.
Junior Gina Sharp led the team in round three, firing a squad-best 77 to finish tied for 81st at 21-over-par.
Leading the team overall was sophomore Mallory Batson who finished 17-over-par at 233, while third place was taken by fellow sophomore Erika Thornton with a 239 . Junior Leigh Phillips fired a 247 for fourth and freshman Perry Katherine Furr's 248 rounded out State golfers.
The Southeastern Conference wrapped up three of the tournament's top seven spots. Tied for team honors was Miami and Central Arkansas, both which finished 40-over-par at 904. East Tennessee State claimed third place at four strokes back, fourth place went to Florida at 912, and Ole Miss rounded out the top five with a 913. The individual title was also split, as East Tennessee State's Sinead O'Sullivan and Central Arkansas' Nicole Forshner each fired a two-over-par at 218.
MSU continues spring action Friday, March 13 at the LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic. The tournament will be hosted by LSU and will be held at the University Club golf course.
