
Pair Of Lady Bulldogs Lead MSU At LSU Golf Classic

BATON ROUGE, La. - Junior Gina Sharp and sophomore Mallory Batson each fired a 75 to stand tied for 50th position and lead Mississippi State's Lady Golfers at the LSU Golf Classic on Friday. MSU stands 18th after the first round of play.
Sophomore Erika Thornton currently stands tied for 80th individually after firing a 78 in the first round, while juniors Suzanne Stanley and Leigh Phillips recorded rounds of 80 and 81, respectively.
Three Southeastern Conference squads completed round one inside the top 10, while host LSU stands tied for third with a team total of 287. Atop the team rankings is Wake Forest, who holds a one-stroke lead over second-placed Virginia at 284. Tied with LSU for third is North Carolina and Tulane rounds out the tournament's top five at 289. Virginia's Calle Nielson finished five-under-par to lead the inidivdual standings after round one with a 67.
Mississippi State's women golfers will begin second-round action beginning at 8:30 a.m. CT on Saturday, while the third and final round will also begin at 8:30 a.m. CT on Sunday in a shotgun format.
