
Diamond Dogs Post 5-1 Midweek Win Over Visiting Jaguars

STARKVILLE, Miss. - Mississippi State's Forrest Moore threw six innings of five-hit baseball as the Bulldogs turned back South Alabama 5-1 in college baseball action Tuesday afternoon at Dudy Noble Field.
Moore (2-0) struck out six and walked two, while allowing only one run. Chad Crosswhite threw three innings of one-hit shutout relief to garner the squad's first save of the season. MSU improved to 4-1, while South Alabama dropped to 2-3.
The Bulldogs erased a 1-0 deficit Tuesday by scoring twice in the fourth inning and adding three more scores in the fifth inning.
In the MSU fourth inning, the Bulldogs tied the game when Connor Powers ripped a one-out home run to left center field. The Bulldogs have now homered in four straight games. Ryan Duffy then reached on a walk and later scored on an RBI-single by Ryan Powers.
An inning later, Duffy again figured into things with a two-run double. That hit scored Jet Butler, who had singled and Connor Powers, who had reached as a hit batsman. An RBI-single by Scott DeLoach capped the scoring.
The Bulldogs finished with 10 hits. DeLoach, Mark Goforth and Ryan Powers each had multiple hits for the Bulldogs. Jet Butler has now hit safely in four straight games. Connor Powers has now driven a run in all five MSU contests this season.
USA finished with six hits, including multiple hit performances by Brandon Brown and Clint Reynolds.
Dustin Crenshaw (0-1) took the loss for the Jaguars. Crenshaw worked 3-1/3 innings, allowing three hits and two runs (both earned), with one strikeout and two walks. Michael Raia and Jarrett Bailey worked in relief.
The Bulldogs resume their season-opening nine-game homestand with a 4 p.m. Wednesday game against Mississippi Valley State. MSU hosts Nicholls this weekend with game times of 4 p.m. Friday, 1 p.m. Saturday and 1:30 p.m. Sunday.
