Lady Bulldogs Qualify For Championship Round At Kiawah Island Intercollegiate

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. - Mississippi State's women's golf squad finished play today after two rounds tied for 21st out of an NCAA-record 43 competing teams and qualified for tomorrow's championship round at the Kiawah Island Women's Intercollegiate.
Sophomore Mallory Batson again led the squad with today's 77-stroke performance, currently standing tied for 25th in individual play at nine-over-par. Fellow sophomore Erika Thornton fired a 79 for the second-straight round to hold onto a tie for 77th place overall. Juniors Gina Sharp and Leigh Phillips hold scores of 160 and 161, respectively, while freshman Perry Katherine Furr rounds out State golfers at 170.
The Southeastern Conference has performed well heading into the championship round, as the SEC holds three of the tournament's current top seven spots. Miami continues to hold onto the lead with a team total of 605, while East Tennessee State approaches round three 30-over-par with a 606. Central Arkansas holds third at five strokes back, Ole Miss stands fourth at 611, and Florida moved into fifth with a 303 performance today and holds a 612 team total.
MSU will begin the championship round at 7:45 a.m. CT Tuesday.
