Lady Bulldogs Conclude Fall Season With 14th Place Finish At Palmetto Intercollegiate

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. - The Mississippi State Lady Bulldog golf team jumped two spots in the final round of the Palmetto Intercollegiate Tuesday to place 14th overall.
Coming into the day in 16th, the lady linksters scored a 305 in the last round. Leading the pack was junior Erika Thornton, shooting a 73 (231 overall) to finish in a tie for 42nd.
Sophomore Perry Katherine Furr was just one stroke back, firing a 75 on the day and tying for 48th. Her two-day total was a 232, making it her best tournament score and finish this fall. Freshman Morgan McQuary had a career day as well, scoring a 234 to tie for 58th and marking her best three-round total.
Senior Leigh Phillips placed 76th with a 237 while senior Gina Sharp wrapped up the tournament with an overall score of 241.
East Tennessee State finished what they started, scoring an 879 to win the event, a staggering 16 shots better than their closest competitor, Kansas (897). In third place was Kennesaw State firing a 32-over-par 896, with East Carolina and Maryland following just behind.
The Palmetto Intercollegiate concluded the fall season for the State squad. Up next is the spring season's Kinderlou Forest Challenge on Feb. 28-March 2, 2010, in Valdosta, Ga.
