Lady Bulldogs Head Into Final Round At Palmetto Intercollegiate

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. - Mississippi State's women's golf club finished the opening rounds in the Palmetto Intercollegiate in 15th place after two-round score of 624. The lady bulldogs got started with a 315 opening around in the morning and improved in the afternoon portion with a 309 score.

Sophomore Perry Katherine Furr leads the way into the final round with current two-round total of 157, tied for 61st. While sitting at 14 strokes over, she finished the day with a respective score of 75 in the second round.

Senior Leigh Phillips, junior Erika Thornton and freshman Morgan McQuary all fired two-round scores of 158.

Phillips began the day by shooting a season-low round of 75, which was also the lowest first round of her MSU career and followed that up with an 83. McQuary also made impressive strides by tying her best output this season with a 78 score in the opening frame and an 80 afterward. Thornton shot a eight-over-par 80 and came back with 78 in the following 18 holes.

Senior Gina Sharp concluded the day with a 160 through two rounds.

East Tennessee St. leads the pack with a 583 score and a three-shot lead over second place Maryland. 43rd-ranked Campbell follows right after with a 591 and Kennesaw St. scored a 594 for fourth place. East Carolina and Georgia St. each shot 598s tying for fifth place.  Round two begins at 8:45 Tuesday morning on the Kiawah Island Oak Point golf course.
