
MSU Drops Soccer Match To George Mason

"We created a lot of scoring opportunities in the first half, but we didn't take advantage and put them in the goal," MSU head coach Neil Macdonald said. "Not taking the chances we had ended up costing us. This weekend taught us a lot about ourselves as a team and that is a big positive going forward."
MSU opened tournament competition with a 3-0 loss to a highly-touted Georgetown squad on Friday.
In Sunday's match, the homestanding Patriots became much more defensive in the final 45 minutes. George Mason out-shot MSU 11-4 in the final half with the Bulldogs not really mustering a legitimate offensive scoring threat.
MSU keeper Taryn Holland was credited with six saves in the match.
George Mason finally broke through in the early stages when Vidro convereted the first of five corner kicks for the hosts in the final half.
MSU travels next to Thibodaux, La., for the Nicholls State invitational. The Bulldogs play the host squad at 4:30 p.m. Friday and South Alabama at noon Sunday.
