Lady Bulldogs Conclude First-Round Play At SEC Championship

LOUDON, Tenn. -The Mississippi State women's golf team shot a 319 in the opening round of the SEC Championship Friday held at the Tennessee National Golf Club in Loudon, Tenn. As a team, the Lady Bulldogs are 11th on the leaderboard.
State was led by freshman Erika Thornton who fired a 77 in first-round play. The Knoxville, Tenn. native is tied for 21st in the individual standings heading into the second round. Sophomore Suzanne Stanley is tied for 26th after a round of 78 on Friday. Senior Julia Huh finished one stroke back with a 79 and is tied for 35th after one round of play. Freshman Mallory Batson and sophomore Gina Sharp both fired rounds of 85 and are tied for 53rd heading into Saturday.
Arkansas and Florida both shot rounds of 297 to share the first round lead. Georgia and South Carolina are tied for third while Alabama is fifth. Stacey Lewis of Arkansas leads the individual competition by two strokes after a 3-under par, 69 on Friday.
MSU will begin its second round Saturday with a 10 a.m. CT tee time on hole #10.
