
Fast Leads Through First Two Rounds, Bulldogs In Third

MOBILE, Ala. ? The Mississippi State men's golf team is in third place in the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate after two rounds of play at the par 72 Herron Lakes Country Club in Mobile, Ala. After firing rounds of 293 and 301 the Bulldogs are one shot back from second place Tennessee-Chattanooga.
MSU junior Matt Fast leads all individuals through two rounds with fellow classmate Noah Goldman tied for fifth. Fast was in the lead after his 3-under-par showing in round one and maintained the lead following his 1-over-par 73 in round two. The Hattiesburg, Miss.-native holds a two stroke lead over Derek Fathauer of Louisville. Goldman shot even par in round one and notched a 3-over-par 75 in round two, to be tied for fifth after day one. Senior Josh Oller is 7-over-par after two rounds and is tied for 17th. Junior Carlos Sainz, Jr., trails Oller by three strokes and is tied for 29th, with junior Josh Bevell trailing by one stroke at 11-over-par and tied for 34th going into the final round of play.
Senior Jake Lambert, junior Logan Young and freshman Brad Thompson all competed as individuals at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate. Young is tied for 47th and shot consistent rounds of 78 and 79 on day one, followed by Lambert who shot a 166-two round score and Thompson trailing Lambert by two strokes with a 168 through two rounds.
Louisville holds an eight stroke lead over Tennessee-Chattanooga followed by Mississippi State and Memphis is in a close fourth being one stroke shy of MSU's two round score. Host-school South Alabama is in fifth followed by Southern Mississippi, Eastern Michigan, Xavier University and South Florida tied for eighth, Hartford, Mercer and Davidson.
Tournament play will be concluded on Tuesday with the first tee time scheduled for 8:30 a.m.
