
Wilder, 4x100-Meter Relay Add NCAA Qualifying Marks To Resume

HATTIESBURG, Miss. ? Freshman O'Neal Wilder sprinted a personal-best 21.12 seconds in the 200-meter dash to earn his first NCAA qualifying mark of the outdoor season on Saturday during the USM Invitational held at the Marshall Bell Track and Field Complex.
While Wilder won the 200-meter dash, the 4x100-meter relay team of freshman Justin Christian, Wilder, senior Jamil Hubbard and sophomore Kendall May also picked up a NCAA qualifying mark with their time of 40.46, taking second place in the event. In the 400-meter dash, senior Chris Woods ran a personal-best 47.66, earning second. Senior Golden Coachman placed third with his personal-best time of 47.99 in 400.
"I felt like we had a great meet today," said Associate Head Coach Steve Dudley. "Our kids really rose to the occasion. We had several regional qualifiers. O'Neal Wilder was the surprise qualifier in the 200. Anytime you come to a meet and get regional qualifiers, it is worth coming to it."
Senior Kyle Roberts hurdled his way into third place in the 400-meter hurdles with his time of 52.77 in the event. The 4x400-meter relay crew of Woods, freshman Emanuel Mayers, Coachman and Wilder notched first place honors in the event with their time of 3:12.07.
In the pole vault, senior Joseph Queen carded a jump of 15 feet to win the event. Freshman Ed Wesela had a personal-best throw of 51-05 in the shot put to finish in the top five.
Queen also picked up a personal-best mark in the javelin throw (178-03) to finish fourth. Junior Darryl Brady threw 170-02 to finish in fifth.
In women's action, sophomore Bridgette Rose ran the 200-meter dash in 24.64 to take runner-up in the race. Freshman Simone Domingue posted a season-best time of 17:35.50 in the 5000-meter run, taking the overall title in the event.
Freshman Sarah Hammes finished runner-up to Domingue with her personal-best time of 17:47.36.
Rose also competed in the 100-meter hurdles, running a personal-best 13.76 to finish second in the action. Junior Dorothy Youmans completed the event in 14.94 to take fourth place.
Both squads return home for their next meet, hosting the Jace Lacoste Invitational on Saturday, March 22. Field event competition begins at 9 a.m. and admission is free.
