
Bulldog Netmen Breeze To 6-1 Victory Over Georgia State

STARKVILLE, Miss. -The Mississippi State men's tennis team won its third straight match Saturday, defeating Georgia State 6-1 at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre. The Bulldogs upped their season record to 4-2 as they move into conference play next week.
State opened up doubles in convincing fashion. The first match complete came on court #3 where Bulldogs Chris Doerr and Tanner Stump topped GSU's pair of Ross Hopper and Trenton Spinks 8-2. Bulldogs Ivan Bjelica and Philippe Frayssinoux, ranked 59th, clinched the opening point for State when they defeated Anze Cevka and Nejc Podkrajsek 8-3 on court #1. On court #2, State's Chris Doerr and Tanner Stump took control early and won 8-2 over Panthers Aleksander Elezovic and William Adeimy.
As singles play began, the Bulldogs set the tempo early. MSU took a 2-0 lead when freshman Antonio Lastre topped GSU's Spinks 6-3, 6-1 on court #5. Mstate extended its lead to 3-0 when Artem Kuznetsov dismissed Panther Hopper 6-3, 7-5 on court #6. The clinching point came on court 3 as MSU's Farlow eased past Elezovic 6-4, 6-1. The lead went to 5-0 when State's Doerr rallied to defeat Adeimy of GSU 4-6, 7-6, 1-0 in a supertiebreaker. In a supertiebreaker on court #2, MSU's 42nd-ranked Frayssinoux held on to knock off Cevka 5-7, 7-5, 1-0 to give the Bulldogs a 6-0 lead. Georgia State's lone point came on court #1 when Panther Podkrajsek rallied to top MSU's 45th-ranked Bjelica 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 in a supertiebreaker.
The Bulldogs moved to 2-0 all time against GSU with the win on Saturday. Lastre stayed unbeaten in dual matches this season with his win, moving to 4-0 this season. Farlow improved to 5-1 in dual matches this season with his win while Doerr and Kuznetsov won their first dual matches this season.
The Bulldog's next action comes Feb. 29 when they open up Southeastern Conference play at third-ranked Georgia. State will then continue its road trip March 2 as they travel to Knoxville, Tenn., to face 13th-ranked Tennessee.
