FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.- Looking to win their third consecutive game against Southeastern Conference foe Arkansas (17-4, 1-4 SEC), Mississippi State (13-7, 1-4 SEC) could not overcome 16 turnovers Sunday afternoon, as they watched an early 12-point lead disappear in a 56-42 loss to the Lady Razorbacks.

Both teams came out cold in the opening minutes of the first half, as neither squad could make a basket over the first three minutes. State sophomore forward Tysheka Grimes broke that trend, making the first shot of the game at the 17:11 mark. That sparked a 10-0 MSU run over the first eight minutes of the game. Meanwhile, Arkansas did not score their first field goal until the 8:45 mark in the period and MSU led 13-1 early on.

However, State would commit 10 turnovers in the half and was held to 38 percent shooting, allowing Arkansas to come back. After missing their first 15 shots of the half, the Lady Razorbacks hit 9-out-of-11 the rest of the way, taking a 29-23 lead going into the break.

In the second half, Arkansas held MSU scoreless over the first four minutes, as the Lady Bulldogs struggled to put together much on the offensive end. UA went on a 12-3 run to begin the period, stretching their lead out to 15 at 41-26 with 13:36 to go in the contest. State would only get as close as nine points the rest of the way, unable to overcome 28 percent shooting for the game. In a sluggish half, Arkansas held the lead the whole way.

MSU's Imesia Jackson fell just two points shy of recording a double-double, scoring eight points while pulling down 10 rebounds. Marneshia Richard put together another strong performance for the Lady Bulldogs, scoring 12 points and grabbing four boards in 39 minutes of play. Tyshekia Grimes added eight points and junior guard Alexis Rack scored six points each.

Arkansas had four players score in double figures. Avana Brereton posted a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds, and Brittney Vaughn led UA in scoring with 14 points on the afternoon.

The win by Arkansas marks the fourth time in the last five meetings between the two schools that the home team has won.

Mississippi State returns home this Thursday night, Jan. 31, taking on Alabama. Tip-off between the Lady Bulldogs and Crimson Tide is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT at Humphrey Coliseum.
