Bjelica Falls Short In Championship Of SEC Indoors

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Mississippi State senior Ivan Bjelica's bid to claim the singles title at the SEC Indoor Championships fell just short as he dropped a three-set match in the final Monday at the Hilton Riverside New Orleans Hotel and Health Club. The loss was the first this spring for Bjelica as he now stands at 4-1.
Bjelica, who faced off against fourth-seeded Luis Flores of Georgia, dropped the first set 6-4. In the second set however, the MSU senior rallied to win the set 7-6(2) in a tiebreaker. In the decisive third set, both players held serve until the final game when Flores broke Bjelica to take the set 6-4 and claim the tournament title.
The MSU netmen now turn their attention to their dual-match season opener against UAB on Feb. 3. Match time is set for 1 p.m. CT at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre on the MSU campus.
