State Netmen Fall To Top-Ranked Georgia

First off the court in doubles was State's Chris Doerr and Ryan Falow as they dropped an 8-4 decision to UGA's Jamie Hunt and Nate Schnugg on court #3. Georgia clinched the opening point when their top-ranked tandem of John Isner and Luis Flores won 8-3 over MSU's Ivan Bjelica and Philippe Frayssinoux on court #1. On court #2, UGA's 13th-ranked duo of Travis Helgeson and Matic Omerzel topped State's freshman team of Artem Kuznetsov and Pjotrs Necajevs 8-4.
MSU (6-11, 3-6), fell quickly behind in singles and never recovered. Georgia took a 2-0 lead when 43rd-ranked Omerzel topped State's Farlow 6-1, 6-2 on court #4. UGA exteded their lead to 3-0 when 92nd-ranked Schnugg defeated MSU's Edouard Benchetrit 6-1, 6-2 on court #5. The fourth and clinching point for Georgia came on court #1 where top-ranked Isner downed MSU's 37th-ranked Bjelica 6-2, 6-2. The lead went to 5-0 when UGA's 78th-ranked Hunt topped MSU's Doerr 6-1, 6-3 on court #6. Georgia's 11th-ranked Helgeson gave UGA a 6-0 lead as he downed State's Frayssinoux 6-2, 6-2 on court #2. The final point, which gave Georgia the 7-0 advantage, came from 17th-ranked Luis Flores as he outlasted MSU freshman Kuznetsov 7-6, 6-3 on court #3.
With the loss, State fell to 2-7 this season on the road. The Bulldogs also fell to 6-43 all time against Georgia. The Bulldogs will continue its weekend activity Sunday, as it travels to Knoxville, Tenn. to face #22 Tennessee. Match time is slated for noon C.T.
