
Mathis Leads State To 10th-Place Finish At SEC Championship

Freshman Gina Sharp finished a career best tied for 21st, shooting a 224 for the tournament including a final round 74. Julia Huh finished with a 235 and ended the tournament with a 235. Sophomore Leigh Phillips finished with a 238 and a tie for 47th, while Suzanne Stanley shot a 240 for the weekend and tied for 52nd.
The Georgia Lady Bulldogs shot a field-best 289 on Sunday to retain their lead and claim the team title. UGA finished with an 865 for the weekend and claimed their first SEC Championship since 2001. Florida fired a 290 on the final day to take the runner-up position, finishing with an 881.
It was UGA sophomore Taylor Leon who stole the show on the final day of the individual competition. The Dallas, Texas, native shot a third-round 67 to overtake the lead and never looked back, as she claimed the title with a three-round score of 208. Marci Turner of Tennessee and Garrett Phillips of Georgia both shot a 212 for the tournament to finish in a tie for second.
