STARKVILLE, Miss. - The Mississippi State women's basketball team opened the 2007-2008 season with a 88-66 routing of the DT3 Sunday afternoon in an exhibition contest at Humphrey Coliseum.
State jumped on top early in the game and held the lead throughout. MSU's largest lead came with 14:27 left in the game when the Lady Bulldogs were up by 36 points. State was impressive on the offensive front with 22 assists on 33 total field goals made. The Lady Bulldogs also posted a positive assist-turnover ratio on the afternoon.
In the first half of play, the Lady Bulldogs shot 15-for-33 from the field, good for 45 percent, while holding DT3 to 21 percent on 5-for-23 shooting. The Lady Bulldogs also shot 50 percent from the behind the arc.
The Lady Bulldogs shot 71.4 percent (10-for-14) from the charity stripe on the afternoon.
MState had four scorers in double figures. Preseason all-SEC recipient Imesia Jackson led MSU in scoring with 19 points and nine rebounds. Fourteen of Jackson's points came in the second half of play.
Sophomore Alexis Rack followed up with 15 points and seven assists. Junior Robin Porter tallied 12 points and six rebounds, while freshman Mary Kathryn Govero scored 10 points for the Lady Bulldogs.
DT3 was led by Victoria Crawford, who led all scorers, with 23 points including 12-for-17 from the charity stripe. Tameka Kelly chipped in 16 points and eight rebounds.
MState officially opens the 34th season of women's basketball on Friday evening, Nov. 9, against Southeastern Louisiana. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m.
