
MSU Through First Round Of Memphis Competition; Rd. Two Halted

CORDOVA, Tenn. ? Mississippi State's men's golf team completed the first round at the Memphis Intercollegiate today with a score of 302, and was halfway through round two when play was suspended due to inclimate weather. The Bulldogs currently stand fifth amongst the 15-team field with a score of 9-over par.
Rebounding from a ninth place finish in round one, MSU worked its way up the standings early in round two with the play of MState juniors Josh Bevell and Carlos Sainz, Jr., who lead the Bulldogs in competition. Both are tied for 14th in the individual field.
Sainz, Jr., was tied with junior Matt Fast for the team lead after the first round, each firing a 3-over par round of 75. Sainz, Jr. is currently 2-under par after nine holes of play in the second round. Bevell notched a 76 in the first round, but responded with a 3-under par performance through nine holes in the second round. Fast is currently third on the team and tied for 20th amongst the individual field. He is currently at even par through 10 holes of play in the second round.
Redshirt senior Josh Oller is tied for 28th individually after a 4-over par performance in round one. He is even par through 10 holes of round two competition.
Coming off a medal-winning performance in the Magnolia Cup, where junior Noah Goldman tallied a 66 to help lead the Bulldogs to victory over in-state rival Mississippi, the Longwood, Fla., native is currently the fifth-place Bulldog in Memphis. Notching a first round of 79, Goldman is 1-over par through eight holes of play in round two.
Entering the tournament as an individual, junior Logan Young is in third place overall in the field with a 2-over par first round and a stellar 6-under par second round (through 11 holes). Young's play as an individual does not count towards MState's team score.
Suspended play is expected to resume tomorrow at 9 a.m. CT, while round three will not be played.
